Season Review! Part One: The Results!

April:

This was a largely disappointing month that condemned us to the Europa League next season in a month that saw us pick up just one win in the Premier League.

Burnley 0-0 Tottenham

This was the most boring match of the season, probably not just in terms of Spurs matches, but in the whole of the 380 matches played in the Premier League, it was absolutely awful.

It was almost a repeat of the FA Cup third round tie at Turf Moor but minus the goals. Some of you may remember the awful Paulinho shot that trundled wide of the target in the second half that just about summed up the awful game.

Tottenham 0-1 Aston Villa

Tim Sherwood came back to haunt us at White Hart Lane as we already looked on the beach ready for the summer break. Whilst Villa were fighting for their lives down at the bottom, we had nothing to play for, and Tim Sherwood’s man claimed all three points.

Christian Benteke fired Villa into the lead midway through the first half as we struggled to break down a very organised Aston Villa defensive unit on an extremely frustrating afternoon.

Newcastle 1-3 Tottenham

It was almost a case of De Ja Vu at St. James’ park as we held a 1-0 lead going into half-time. Just as they did in the return fixture, Newcastle hit back immediately after half-time, but this time we claimed the three points in our only win of the month.

Nacer Chadli gave us the lead from long range before Jack Colback hit back just after the break. Then Christian Eriksen’s free-kick missed everybody and found its way into the net before Harry Kane finished the job off on the break.

Southampton 2-2 Tottenham

Mauricio Pochettino received an extremely hostile reception at St. Mary’s on his return to the club on the South coast, but it didn’t stop his side from coming from behind twice to save a point.

Some very slack defending saw Graziano Pelle give Southampton the lead before Erik Lamela hit back, seemingly handling the ball in the process, but the goal stood. Pelle scored again for the Saints before Nacer Chadli scored once again to save a point.

May:

There was nothing to play for in the final month of our season, and we  got off to a horrible start, losing two in two weeks. However, we bounced back to win our final two games of our ‘transition’ season.

Tottenham 0-1 Manchester City

We were so unlucky not to get a point at the very least out of this game, and we could have actually taken the full three points out of this if we had managed to take a couple of the chances we created.

We dominated the play for large parts of the match, but it was Sergio Aguero who came up with the crucial finish in the first half to continue his fantastic record playing against Spurs.

Stoke 3-0 Tottenham

This was comfortably up there with the worst performances of the season, do I need to say anymore? The defending was shambolic and we offered next to nothing going forward. After his sending off, this game could spell the end for Vlad Chriches.

Charlie Adam put the home side ahead after twenty-one minutes before a lack of communication between Hugo Lloris and Eric Dier resulted in Steven N’Zonzi scoring Stoke’s second. A third was added for Stoke in the final minutes that summed up our afternoon.

Tottenham 2-0 Hull

We wore our new kit for the first time in this game, and if results will be like this every week meet season in our new kit, then we could be in for a very good season. Michael Dawson and Tom Huddlestone returned to the Lane on an emotional afternoon for Brad Friedel too.

A lovely pass from Erik Lamela cut open the Hull defence for Nacer Chadli to score. Danny Rose then sealed the victory for us. The victory all but condemned Hull to relegation.

Everton 0-1 Tottenham

We finished the season on a high and leapfrogged Liverpool on the final day of the season after they were humiliated 6-1 away at Stoke. We finished the season in fifth with a total of sixty-four points.

Harry Kane scored the only goal of the game, getting on the end of an Eric Dier cross. A solid win to finish off the season was our first win at Goodison Park since 2007, eight years ago. Here is how the final table looks.
