Season Review! Part One: The Results!

December:

In a solid December, there were many positives to take as we were only beaten once in the Premier League over the course of December, and there is no shame at all losing 3-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea 3-0 Tottenham

It was another one of those games that we look back on now at the end of the season and think that we could have got a little for out of if certain things had gone our way at Stamford Bridge.

We had a large amount of possession in the game, and Harry Kane hit the bar in the early stages of the match. Admittedly the goals could have been prevented, and we should have created more considering the amount of possession we had, but as I said, there is no shame in losing to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Tottenham 0-0 Crystal Palace

One fan on Twitter described the atmosphere in White Hart Lane on this day during the match as ‘poisonous’, as boos rang around the stadium when the final whistle blew.

Palace threatened throughout the match and created a few good chances of their own, and could have easily won the match if they had their shooting boots on as Yannick Bolasie terrorised the Spurs defensive unit.

Besiktas 1-0 Tottenham

Although qualification from the group stages was already guaranteed, there was still something fairly important to play for in our final match of the Europa League group stages.

We ended up losing this one 1-0 in Turkey which ensured that we finished second in the group. This would end up to be a very important defeat as Besiktas made sure that we got the harder draw in the knockout stages.

Swansea 1-2 Tottenham

It took yet another bit of Christian Eriksen late magic away from home to seal the three points on a rainy afternoon in Wales. Harry Kane fired us ahead, but things seemed to be going mostly downhill from there.

Swansea equalised and entering the final few minutes looked the most like scoring, but Christian Eriksen received the ball on the edge of the box and slotted a composed finish into the corner for another dramatic win on a Sunday afternoon.

Tottenham 4-0 Newcastle

Spurs advanced to the semi-finals of the Capital One Cup to set up a two-legged tie with Sheffield United, who had beaten some big teams along the way to make it that far.

Goals from Nabil Bentaleb, Nacer Chadli, Harry Kane and Roberto Soldado ensured we beat a struggling Newcastle United side under the management of Alan Pardew.

Tottenham 2-1 Burnley

The record signing, the £30m man scored one of his two Premier League goals of the season in this clash, and what a belter it was. Erik Lamela scored his first ever Premier League goal for Spurs in this match as he cut inside and fired an effort into the corner that handed us the three points.

Harry Kane gave us the lead early on before Burnley hit back very quickly, and then the Argentine’s moment did come, and he did make the difference, this time.

Leicester 1-2 Tottenham

The Tottenham boys that made the trip to Leicester on Boxing Day were awarded with a win for their efforts as we claimed yet another 2-1 win away from home, making that our third in succession.

Harry Kane opened the scoring in the first minute of the game as Erik Lamela played through a peach of a pass to Chadli, who passed onto Kane, who then finished off the move, Ulloa equalised before Christian Eriksen came up with yet another second half winner.

Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United

There were a few positives to take out of this game as we played out our second 0-0 draw of the month of December. Hugo Lloris pulled off a number of magnificent saves as we failed to capitalise and score at the other end.

It was a very tight affair at White Hart Lane, and not many chances were created at either end, and with the saves that Lloris made, this could be seen as a pointed gained rather than a point lost. This is how the table stood at the end of 2014.

January:

For me, this was our most successful month. Losing just twice out of nine matches in January, I feel that we made the most progress in this month, and it was a great time to be a Tottenham.

Tottenham 5-3 Chelsea

This was possibly the most magical night at White Hart Lane of the season and what a feeling it was at the end despite being a bag of nerves for the duration of the match. Diego Costa scored for Chelsea eighteen minutes in before the comeback started.

A brace from Harry Kane, a penalty from Andros Townsend, and goals from Danny Rose and Nacer Chadli outweighed the goals of Eden Hazard and John Terry along with the earlier goal from Costa.

Burnley 1-1 Tottenham

With many having to listen to the radio for updates on this one, if there was one game you would chose not to watch, it would have been this one. There was hardly a shot on goal in the first half.

It ended up honours even at Turf Moor in the end after Nacer Chadli fired us into the lead. However, Burnley hit back to set up a reply at White Hart Lane.

Crystal Palace 2-1 Tottenham

This by no means is an embarrassing result. Palace have made Selhurst Park a fortress this season, and they have claimed many scalps at home this term, including beating us coming from behind.

Harry Kane fired us into a lead just after the half-time break before Palace made a comeback. Goals from Dwight Gayle and Jason Puncheon ensured that we fell to a defeat.

Tottenham 4-2 Burnley

It was a very eventful night at White Hart Lane as Tottenham advanced to the next round of the FA Cup. Proceedings couldn’t have got off to a worse start as Marvin Sordell and Ross Wallace put Burnley two up after just seven minutes.

However, we came back to progress by four goals to two with the goals coming from Paulinho, Etienne Capoue, Vlad Chiriches and Danny Rose. It could have been five if Roberto Soldado had scored from just three yards.

Tottenham 2-1 Sunderland

Again, Christian Eriksen came to our rescue as he scored in the final five minutes, but this time it was at White Hart Lane in an afternoon that saw a scandalous decision in the final seconds of the match.

John O’Shea scored an own-goal in the opening exchanges before Sebastian Larsson put the visitors level. Then Christian Eriksen scored in the 88th minute to seal the victory. Jan Vertonghen should have put us 3-1 ahead, but somehow was ruled offside despite being clearly in his own half.

Tottenham 1-0 Sheffield United

It was a largely frustrating night at White Hart Lane as we struggled to break down a very well organised Sheffield United defence, but a breakthrough finally came for us in the second half.

We were awarded a penalty in the second half for handball in the box, and Andros Townsend stepped up and converted to hand us a 1-0 lead heading into the second leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final.

Tottenham 1-2 Leicester

We were knocked out of the FA Cup in dramatic fashion at the hands of Leicester, and it was a howler from Michel Vorm that cost us our place in the competition.

Andros Townsend scored another penalty for us before The Foxes came back from a goal behind to steal the game. Leonardo Ulloa got the visitors back into the game seven minutes from time before Jeffery Schlupp grabbed the winner in stoppage time.

Sheffield United 2-2 Tottenham

Christian Eriksen scored one of the best free-kicks of the season as we progressed with another late but great Christian Eriksen winner on a topsy-turvy night at Brammel Lane.

Eriksen put us ahead on the night and further ahead on aggregate before Sheffield United scored two goals in quick succession to completely turn the tie on its head. Just as we seemed to be heading for extra-time, Harry Kane slotted the ball through to Christian Eriksen who stayed calm to send Spurs to Wembley!

West Brom 0-3 Tottenham

Harry Kane hit the twenty mark in terms of goals scored in all competitions, and he did it in a solid 3-0 win over West Brom in a game that in truth we never lost control of since we scored the opener in the sixth minute.

Christian Eriksen scored early on to put us ahead at the Hawthornes, and then Harry Kane scored a brace to make sure of the three points in a very pleasing performance. Here is how the table stood at the end of January.
