World Cup Winner Set To Swap Gelsenkirchen For North London?

Reports have been surfacing in Germany that Spurs are reportedly lining-up a bid of £13million to Schalke to sign Benedikt Howedes.

The 27 Year-Old World Cup winner has been in impressive form for Roberto Di Matteo’s side this campaign and is widely regarded as one of the most complete defenders of today’s game. It’s well known that Mauricio Pochettino wants to strengthen Spurs’ defence over the summer with Kevin Wimmer from Koln another target.

But the potential signing of Howedes would signal a real statement of intent from Spurs and the German would be a superb addition to Tottenham’s back-line and with conceding goals being a pressing problem at White Hart Lane it would be reassuring having the Schalke born defender leading the line.

Howedes was only one of 3 Germany players who played every minute of the World Cup and received plaudits from all-comers for his quality, maturity, leadership and ability to command a defence and keep them organised.

Spurs haven’t found their ideal CB partnership this season. Many have been tried but none have had the perfect formula to it but in Howedes we could get someone very versatile who plays Centre-Back and Full-Back equally well, who commands the defence and leads the team efficiently.

His leadership would be pivotal for our younger defenders as they could to learn from him and absorb what he’s done and use that knowledge to get better themselves as defenders. So if the transfer can be completed it would be a real coup for the Lilywhites.
