North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham are set to battle it out for Manchester United midfielders Tom Cleverley, who will be available on a free transfer in the summer.

The middle man’s contract is set to run out at the end of the season, and with Louis van Gaal unwilling to extend Cleverley’s stay at Old Trafford, it could turn into a free-for-all as a number of clubs fight for his signature.

Aston Villa, where Cleverley is currently on-loan at, are keen to make his loan move permanent in summer, but they will face competition from Arsenal, Everton, Tottenham and West Ham.

Not only is the England international a wanted man in his homeland, Schalke have been linked with making a move for the 25-year-old.

The Metro report that Liverpool have joined the race to sign Carlos Bacca in the summer, a player who Spurs are reportedly admirers of.

The Sevilla man will reportedly be available for a fee in the region of £18m, and it looks as if The Reds are very tempted to make a bid and pip Spurs to the post, who are also monitoring Bacca’s performances.

Despite the exceptional form of Harry Kane, Tottenham are keen to bring in another striker should the England international suffer a dip in form with the club becoming increasingly frustrated with Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor.

However, Spurs are not the only club in the Premier League that needs a striker, Liverpool are in desperate need with a number of players either injured or off-form.

West Ham are keen on signing FC Basel centre-back Fabian Schar report the Daily Mirror, but Spurs could be set to upset the Hammers plans of signing the defender.

The Daily Mirror claim that West Ham will put transfer negotiations on hold until they have the managerial situation sorted, but this kind of hesitation could allow Spurs to jump in and sign the centre-back.

The 23-year-old’s contract is set to run out in the summer, and although there is an option to stay a further year if certain clauses are met, it is thought that he will move away this summer.

Spurs are in need of a defender to provide an error-prone Tottenham defensive unit stability, and a new signing could be the man to partner Jan Vertonghen at the heart of the defence.
