Tottenham picked up yet another 2-1 win in the Premier League, this time Sunderland were on the receiving end of a Christian Eriksen late winner. Spurs’ last seven out of eight last wins have been won via 2-1 scorelines. Here is how we rated the players.

Hugo Lloris 8 – Made a number of fantastic saves including a double save from Johnson and Graham. Saved us in injury time when we should have been able to keep possession when he tipped away Graham’s shot.

Kyle Walker 6– Wasted a few good crossing opportunities but he was solid defensively. Made an important stop on Defoe just as the striker was cutting back onto his right foot; almost certainly saved a shot on goal.

Eric Dier 7 – Finally got his chance at Centre back because Fazio was injured and he had a good game. Made a few really good tackles on Defoe. Was comfortable in the air and on the ball, looked very composed, good all-round display.

Jan Vertonghen 8 – Scored the opening goal with a moment of brilliance. Was extremely unfortunate not to get a second goal late on because of a shocking decision from the linesman. Defensively solid and showed leadership, good game from Jan.

Danny Rose 6 – Put in a couple of world class crosses throughout the match and he was not challenged defensively. Good aggression in tackles but often a bit too reckless, needs to tone down in his challenges.

Benjamin Stambouli 6 – Was quiet today. Nice pieces of neat skill now and again but overall he didn’t get into the game. Effective in winning the ball but needs to be more forceful in possession and drive at defences.

Mousa Dembele 6 – Had a really good passing game completing 94% of his passes but he faded away as the game went on. Movement on the ball was quicker today but lacked the cutting edge we needed to break Sunderland down earlier on.

Nacer Chadli 6 – By his standards he had a below average game. Had a good chance to score at 1-1 but he fluffed his lines. Couldn’t ever cut inside and find the angle to either pass or shoot on target. Frustrating day.

Harry Kane 7 – Didn’t have his best match today. He was unlucky to hit the post just before half time but he tried to force the play in the second half.

Christian Eriksen 8 – Saved us again in the 88th minute with a superb finish. He nearly scored a fantastic goal in the first half dictated the pace of the game and was running Sunderland ragged, first half especially, another great showing for Eriksen.

Roberto Soldado 5 – Was very poor in all areas. Couldn’t pick a pass, his first touch let him down, his shots were wildly wide and he just looked like a broken beaten footballer. A sorry sight to see today.

Emmanuel Adebayor 6 – First game back since November. Very frosty reception, understandably, when he came on, but worked hard and won the ball with some good challenges and showed willingness on the ball.

Andros Townsend N/A – Only came on for the last 15 minutes but got the all-important assist for the winner.

Paulinho N/A – Came on for Chadli on the 87th minute.
