Tottenham winger Andros Townsend has said that he wants Spurs struggling striker Emmanuel Adeabyor to start in the club’s FA Cup fourth round clash with Leicester.

The striker is far from being the fan favourite at White Hart Lane, and was booed off on Wednesday night against Sheffield United when he was replaced by Roberto Soldado.

Adebayor returned last month from his home country when he returned home due to a family issue. Since then, the striker has been out-of-favour with the fans, but has the backing of the players and manager, especially Andros Townsend, who wants him to start against Leicester (speaking on Thursday afternoon).

“Hopefully he’ll get another game on Saturday against Leicester in the FA Cup and he can get a goal. He is a fantastic player. He worked hard last night [against Sheffield United] and hopefully the fans can see that.”

“He has had a few niggles but he is now 100 per cent fit, so hopefully we will see the Emmanuel Adebayor of last season and he can start scoring goals for us.”

The striker has had an argument with the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust this season, after slamming the Spurs home support at White Hart Lane. Reports have also emerged from the dressing room that he invited Newcastle players into the Spurs dressing room after Spurs’ 2-1 loss at the hands of Newcastle. These factors have all contributed to the recent booing.
