Tottenham winger Andros Townsend has admitted that this year has not been the best of years for him, and he is keen to put this year behind him and return to form next year in 2015.

“It has not been the best of years in terms of injuries and form and it will be nice to put this year behind me,”

“I want to start afresh next year and try to show the form when I first broke into the team by getting fully fit. I haven’t played much and I have had a groin injury, but now I am getting back to fitness.”

“There is a strong competition for places, but it is the same competition as last year when I was in the team. If I’m playing well I know I am as good as anyone.”

Townsend broke into the Tottenham first team in October 2013 when he scored the first goal in a 2-1 win over Aston Villa, and shortly after earned himself a place in the England squad, where he marked his debut with a wonderful goal from just outside the box.

However, 2014 has been rather different for Andros, with the youngster struggling to nail down a regular first team place under both Tim Sherwood and Mauricio Pochettino, with the latter often choosing the club’s longest serving player Aaron Lennon instead.

Townsend has been linked with many clubs who have been offering regular Premier League minutes, but it sounds like Andros may snub these offers in order to stay at Spurs and fight for his place in the starting eleven.
