Both Liverpool’s and Tottenham’s hopes of signing Porto star Jackson Martinez have been dented after the striker has said that he intends to stay at his current club until the summer at least.

Tottenham have been looking for a new striker to take to the White Hart Lane pitch in January, and many names have cropped up, including Martinez, and Saido Berahino. With Roberto Soldado not performing in the Premier League perhaps has he should do, and Emmanuel Adebayor appearing to be out of favour with head coach Maurico Pochettino.

Liverpool have even looking for a new striker also with their strike force either injured, or misfiring. However, both of those clubs’ hopes of signing the £40m rated striker have been ended by the star deciding to stay at Porto.

It is believed that Porto progressing to the knockout stages of the Champions League had a big impact on the 28 year-old’s decision to stay until the summer. Interest could spark again in the summer, as a move at the end of the season has not been ruled out.
