Spurs will be full of festive cheer as they travel to Leicester City on Boxing Day. The Lilywhites have recorded three consecutive wins and the team is on the best form we’ve seen since Mauricio Pochettino became manager. The opponents Leicester are bottom of the table which nearly always confirms relegation at this time of the season, so for Spurs only three points will be satisfactory result from leaving the King Power Stadium.
Where will the match be won?
The midfield battle will be crucial in the outcome. With Chadli and Lamela likely on the wings providing strength, pace and goals, the control of the middle two, likely Mason & Bentaleb, will be important. They’re composure and passing accuracy will be vital in breaking up play and the speed of how we attack going forward relies on those two getting the ball up the pitch as quickly as possible and using the ball effectively.
Who are the key players?
Erik Lamela: After much frustration and many questions being asked of him, the £30million Argentine finally is starting to show all that potential, his Man of the Match display vs Burnley, including his 1st ever PL goal, Bale-esque, showed that he’s at last looking settled and if he is able to break through that Leicester defence and cause them problems, ‘Coco’ could have a field day ahead of him.
Hugo Lloris: Considered by nearly all of our fans as our true Captain and best player, Hugo will be fundamental in helping us win any game this season. His saves at crucial moments, like last week, at 2-1 several saves made from Ings, Barnes and right at the end, from set-pieces, his commanding presence and leadership means that he gives us every opportunity to win any match. Any attack that Leicester have during the game on Boxing Day Lloris will need to be at the top of his game to shut them out and give Spurs the result they need.
Leonardo Ulloa: If Leicester are to regain momentum, and they need to do so asap, then they need Ulloa scoring again. After a blinding start which included a great display in their epic 5-3 win over Man Utd in September, he’s only netted twice since then, in a run which the Foxes have been winless and only collected two points out of that run of fixtures. If Ulloa regains that confidence he displayed in the early weeks of the season and finds his scoring boots again, he’ll give Leicester a fighting chance.
