Spurs got back to winning ways when they beat Brighton 2-0 at White Hart Lane in the Capital One Cup. The goals came from Erik Lamela and Harry Kane, sparking huge debate over who should start at the weekend. Mauricio Pochettino has silenced this by hinting the Kane could be handed his first start of the Premier League season. Villa have not won in five games, scoring in none of them.

Team News:

Spurs will travel to Villa Park without Kyle Walker and Nabil Bentaleb through injury. Kyle could be back soon, although the boos is not quite sure the exact date of the right-back’s return. Aaron Lennon is a doubt to make the starting eleven after picking up a knock on Wednesday.

Predicted Lineup: (4-2-3-1)

Goalkeeper: Hugo Lloris:

Hugo has been in fantastic form recently, and has kept us in many games for large periods of time. It is almost guaranteed that the Frenchman will start at Villa Park.

Defence: Kyle Naughton, Jan Vertonghen, Younes Kaboul, Danny Rose

Vertonghen has said some positive things about the team this week, and performed well on Wednesday, getting in a last ditch tackle to keep the game goalless and should start alongside the captain Younes Kaboul. Eric Dier should be rested now that Naughton is back from injury, it is not his natural position at right-back, and this showed for the first Newcastle goal last week.

Midfield (Holding): Etienne Capoue, Ryan Mason

This has been the holding midfield partnership for the past few week, and was quite effective at Manchester City, although we lost 4-1, it allowed one extra man to help out in attack, whilst the other was happy to sit back and protect the defence.

Midfield (Attacking): Erik Lamela, Christian Eriksen, Nacer Chadli

Pochettino has liked to stay with this attacking three all the way through the Premier League season, and you can understand that decision with two them being our top two goalscorers in the Premier League. It could only be a matter of time before Erik Lamela bags his first league goal for Tottenham as he bagged another cup goal, his third in last two cup appearances. It will also only be a matter of time before we see the full potential of Lamela, as he turned the game on its head when he came on at half-time.

Striker: Harry Kane

Pochettino has already hinted that Kane will start on Sunday, and rightly so. He has been in terrific form in cup competitions such as the Europa League and the Capital One Cup. If he can transfer this form into the Premier League it would be a huge boost as we need goals from up front. However, Kane could start behind the striker, although this is unlikely as Pochettino may want to keep the same attacking three as he has done in recent weeks.
