You may remember a couple of weeks ago that the Sky Monday Night Football team consisting of Ed Chamberlin, Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville looked at the Spurs performance after our loss to Newcastle, singling out the early second half Newcastle goal as the clear turning point in the encounter. Gary Neville was very critical of the Tottenham team, stating that when he thinks of Spurs, he thinks they are ‘never ready, weak’. Boss Mauricio Pochettino has spoken of his displeasure with these comments and has said why his team isn’t ‘weak’ mentally.

“If you have a weak mentality, it would be there in 90 minutes, not only in some moments in the game,” he said.

“The only thing is you need to show you are ready for 95, 96, 97 minutes in the game – it’s true, it’s true.

“We need to improve, we need to work hard. I explained after the game with Newcastle that we need to work very hard with our mentality to be focused on the game for 95 minutes.

“It is one aspect that we need to improve, but it is hard to work because it is a difficult aspect to improve in football.”

You may not say that Spurs have a weak mentality after Harry Kane came onto the pitch at Villa Park and chnged the game, propelling the North London club to a late 2-1 victory. Hwever, mentality is something that Pochettino has vowed to chage for the better, this could be especilly needed for the summer seven of the summer of 2013, who are currently working with their third manager since their arrival at White Hart Lane.
